About Us

About Us

A community-driven project from the beginning, MJM’s unique story is one
tied to its city and people.

MJM was founded in 2010 as a digital project, when our founder Zev Moses realized that no single institution existed to exhibit, map, and share Montreal’s storied Jewish history for the public.

In 2016, the Museum opened its first physical storefront on Boulevard St-Laurent, in the historical heart of Jewish Montreal. MJM is a hub of experimental and landscape-changing Jewish programming. We create new Jewish arts and culture experiences through exhibitions, events, food, music, and tours. By using Montreal’s unique Jewish culture and heritage as a starting point, we offer a different way to connect to cultural life, history, and the arts.

In addition to hosting art exhibitions, and leading hundreds of walking tours and food tours annually, we host dozens of cultural events throughout the year based around art, food, music, and history. We also run a research fellowship for university students, microgrants for creative and cultural exploration, and artist residencies. Through these diverse initiatives, we provide new opportunities and experiences for our visitors of all backgrounds to explore and engage with art, culture, history, and community.

Our vision is that Montreal will be home to a thriving ecosystem of diverse Jewish arts and culture. We want visitors – both Jewish and non-Jewish alike – to feel inspired to explore their own identity, civic history, and community connections through cultural expression.  We invite you to discover the Montreal Jewish Museum, and make new connections in creative, fresh, inclusive, and meaningful ways.

MJM: Redefining What it Means to Engage in Jewish Life.

Our Mission: The Montreal Jewish Museum is an innovative place to connect with Montreal’s Jewish life and identity, share our diverse heritage, and create new arts and cultural experiences.
