Visite guidée du cimetière Back River
Avec Sonia Bazar
On June 2, join us with artist Sonia Bazar for a guided tour of the Back River Cemetery , one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in the city, located in Ahuntsic, and the subject of Bazar’s solo exhibition at the Museum of Jewish Montreal, running until June 9.
Visitors will be immersed in the cemetery’s tumultuous 140-year history as Bazar explores the circumstances of its founding, evolution, and near-abandonment. Thanks to research conducted by Bazar, Anna Sheftel, and other collaborators from Concordia University, guests will leave with a unique insight into this little-known and enigmatic corner of the Montreal landscape. The guided tour will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The tour will be conducted in English, but visitors may ask questions in French.
Please note that this tour will take place on the cemetery grounds. We will meet outside the north exit of the Sauvé Metro station, at the northwest corner of Sauvé and Berri streets. We advise visitors to wear appropriate footwear and be mindful of their surroundings, as some areas of the cemetery are crowded and uneven.
Tickets cost $10 plus tax. Space is limited, so please register in advance to avoid disappointment.
