{"id":7250,"date":"2026-09-15T10:31:57","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T14:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/museejuifmontreal.ca\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=7250"},"modified":"2026-09-15T12:18:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T16:18:07","slug":"artist-talk-with-hannah-berger","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/museejuifmontreal.ca\/en\/event\/artist-talk-with-hannah-berger\/","title":{"rendered":"Artist Talk with Hannah Berger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Join us with artist and writer Hannah Berger as she discusses her practice and shares her experiences from her time as artist-in-residence at Venezia Contemporanea in Spring 2026.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While in Venice, Hannah explored the etymological origins of the word &#8220;ghetto&#8221; in reference to the site of foundry waste on top of which the Venetian Jewish Ghetto was originally built. Taking shape across multidisciplinary approaches, Hannah\u2019s research is being further developed into a project that combines sculpture, installation, and fiction writing. Considering the historic roots of the ghetto and its present reality, Hannah\u2019s work explores how we write and rewrite our own histories.<\/p>\n<p>This artist talk will be moderated by MJM\u2019s Artistic Director, Alyssa Stokvis-Hauer. A Q&amp;A will follow.<\/p>\n<p>Registration is free,\u00a0but advanced registration is required as capacity is limited.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hannah Berger<\/strong>\u00a0is a Montreal-based visual artist and fiction writer who works in a variety of media. Her work is strung with common threads of history and the excavation of language, often employing historical and experimental methods of making and storytelling. She holds a BFA in Studio Art and Art History from Concordia University, and was awarded the Montreal Fiction Prize in 2025.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Accessibility:<\/u>\u00a0<\/strong>Please note that this event will take place at H. Fisher &amp; Fils (4129 Boulevard Saint-Laurent), which is not accessible to visitors with limited mobility. This event will take place on the second floor, accessible by stairwell only.<\/p>\n<p><em>Hosted by\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/yiddishlandpavilion.art\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Yiddishland Pavilion<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.veneziacontemporanea.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Venezia Contemporanea<\/em><\/a><em>, this residency is made possible with support from the Betty Averbach Foundation and\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/bycanvas.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>CANVAS<\/em><\/a><em>.
