{"id":7002,"date":"2026-08-06T16:03:39","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T20:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/museejuifmontreal.ca\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=7002"},"modified":"2026-08-06T16:03:39","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T20:03:39","slug":"windows-to-the-soul-a-painted-glass-workshop","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/museejuifmontreal.ca\/en\/event\/windows-to-the-soul-a-painted-glass-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"Windows to the Soul: A Painted Glass Workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What do we see in ourselves and our histories when we hold them up to the light?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 1962, celebrated Jewish painter Marc Chagall\u2019s\u00a0<em>12 Tribe Windows<\/em>\u00a0were installed in the Abbell Synagogue at the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, each arched stained-glass window was painted by Chagall to represent one of Jacob\u2019s 12 sons and what their respective tribe symbolizes.<\/p>\n<p>In this workshop led by Merav Epstein, we\u2019ll be emulating Chagall\u2019s process to make mini tribe windows to represent ourselves or our loved ones. This workshop will start with a short presentation on Chagall\u2019s practice as a painter and how he moved into stained glass, as well as a quick history on stained glass within Judaism and in Montreal. Ahead of Rosh Hashanah, participants will reflect inward and sketch out ideas for what their own &#8220;tribe&#8221; window would look like, what aspects would be represented, before diving into painting their own mini window.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No prior painting or stained glass experience is required. All materials will be provided.\u00a0<\/strong>Participants are welcome to bring along any objects of importance to them that they may want to depict in their window. Come solo or with friends or family. All identities and cultures are welcome to join!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tickets are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis from $8 per person.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>This event is a part of the Montreal Jewish Arts Collaborative (MJAC), an initiative between the Montreal Jewish Museum,\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/retreat.klezkanada.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>KlezKanada<\/em><\/a><em>, and the\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.segalcentre.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Segal Centre<\/em><\/a><em>.
