SUMMARY:Marbling Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On August 2\, join us with artist Levana Katz for a marbling workshop! \nThis centuries-old practice uses paint and water to create mesmerizing\, one-of-a-kind designs on paper\, canvas\, and many other surfaces. From book covers to wallpapers\, paper marbling is a unique craft that anyone can try. Participants will learn about the art of paper marbling\, and will be able to take home their own unique designs. All levels welcome! \nPayment is offered on a pay-what-you-can basis from $8. Space is limited\, so early registration is encouraged. \nThis workshop will take place in Parc Outremont. Meeting point TBD. \nLevana Katz is an interdisciplinary artist based in Tiohtià:ke / Mooniyang (Montréal). She holds a BFA in Painting and Drawing from Concordia University. Levana creates multimedia installations\, primarily working across material processes such as drawing\, printmaking\, and fibre arts. Her work has been shown in several galleries in Montréal\, including Arprim\, Ada X and the Fofa Gallery. In 2023\, Katz moved to St. John’s\, Newfoundland to pursue the Don Wright Scholarship at St. Michael’s Printshop where she exhibited her first solo show\, Where the Ground Remembers You Twice. As the recipient of the Prix Albert Dumouchel\, Levana was granted a residency at L’imprimerie\, which she completed in 2025. Currently\, Levana works as an art educator at the Visual Arts Centre\, and is an alumni of the Montreal Jewish Museum’s Microgrant Program\, where she created the book By the tips of your fingers\, for the palm of my hand (2026). \nThis event is a part of the Montreal Jewish Arts Collaborative (MJAC)\, an initiative between the Montreal Jewish Museum\, KlezKanada\, and the Segal Centre. This program is made possible with support by the Averbach Family Foundation\, the Azrieli Foundation\, and CANVAS.

SUMMARY:Hasidic Montreal Walking Tour (French)
DESCRIPTION:Join us once again for a fascinating glimpse into Montreal’s Hasidic community through Outremont and the Mile End.\nFormerly the home to the vast majority of Montreal’s Jews in the first part of the twentieth century\, today\, the leafy neighbourhood hosts dozens of Hasidic groups and their synagogues. Led by Steven Lapidus\, this tour will illuminate Montreal’s Hasidic history through a tour of its institutions.\n\n* Please note that this specialty tour will be offered in French. \n\nSteven Lapidus\, PhD is a Montreal-based scholar of the history of Orthodox Judaism\, with a focus on North American Hasidism. A former co-curator at the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre\, he has published articles and book chapters in both English and French on Canadian Jewish history and the Hasidic experience in Canada. As a long-time resident of Mile-End\, his current professional engagements involve working with the borough of Outremont on improving communal relations.\n\nMeeting Point: We will meet at the northeast corner of Waverly and Fairmount (approximate address 5201 rue Waverly) at 5:30pm\, and will conclude at Parc Saint-Viateur.\n\nWeather Policy: n the event of light rain\, the tour will go on as scheduled. If there is a strong warning of heavy rain and/or thunderstorms\, the tour will be postponed. All registrants will have the option to attend the rescheduled tour.

SUMMARY:Back River Cemetery Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join artist Sonia Bazar for a walking tour of the Back River Cemetery and Memorial Gardens. One of the city’s oldest Jewish cemeteries located in Ahuntsic-Cartierville\, this burial ground plays a fascinating yet overlooked role in Montreal’s Jewish history. \nLearn all about the cemetery’s tumultuous 140-year history as Bazar dives into the circumstances behind its founding\, evolution\, and near-abandonment. Informed by research conducted by Bazar\, Dr. Anna Sheftel\, and other collaborators at Concordia University\, guests will leave with unique insight into this overlooked and enigmatic place in Montreal’s landscape. \nA Q&A will follow the guided tour. \nThe tour will take place in English\, but guests are welcome to ask questions in French. \nTicket Rates:\nAdults: $26\nAges 65+: $24\nStudents: $14\nAges 12 and Under: $8 \nAs capacity is limited\, we encourage guests to register in advance. \nPoint of Departure: We will meet outside of the northern exit of Sauvé Metro\, on the northwest corner of Rue Sauvé and Rue Berri. We advise guests to wear appropriate footwear\, and to be mindful of their surroundings as some areas of the cemetery’s terrain are crowded and uneven. \nWeather Policy: In the event of light rain\, the tour will go on as scheduled. All registrants will have the option to attend the rescheduled tour. \nSonia Bazar is a Montreal-born and based artist\, who holds an MFA in Photography from Concordia University. Through sculpture\, photography and poetry\, their practice examines the notion of alien landscapes and how the body belongs to space. Sonia’s work has been shown in Canada\, Germany\, and Spain. In 2023\, Bazar presented her multidisciplinary practice in the exhibition BACK RIVER at the Montreal Jewish Museum.
