SUMMARY:Canada's First Jews: Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:On July 28\, join MJM for the first edition of our brand new historical walking tour in Montreal’s Old Port! \nWhile thousands of Eastern European immigrants famously settled in the Plateau neighbourhood in the early 20th century\, Canada’s First Jews steps further back in time\, highlighting the earliest formation of the Jewish community dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries in Montreal’s Old Port. \nFrom the disputed “first Jew in Canada” to fur traders\, rebels\, and merchants\, explore how early Jewish settlers navigated the changing worlds around them\, and formed a small\, but prominent community in Old Montreal\, that would form the foundation for future Jewish immigrants. \nThe tour will be led by the MJM’s Research Manager\, Benya Villani. \nPlease note that this tour will take place in English.
